Late May 2002
It seems like summer is finally here. The pools are again open and the grass is getting greener and the Duchess continues to grow. It is amazing how much size these wolfhounds put on in so short a period of time. When Duchess was weighed back on April 2nd she was 15 pounds ... now at the end of May she is at 50 pounds. Places that she could once sneak into are no longer accessible and only her head fits there now.
Her appetite has kept up with her growth, naturally fuel for this growth has to come from somewhere, nothing is safe really and all of the other animals have learned to eat their meals quickly and to protect them from the young scavenger. Dinner is the BARF diet and Duchess is now eating raw chicken with Duke, I give him the leg quarters and she get the drum sticks. She now has at least 3 of them at night, I say at least 3 because if Duke drops one of his chicken parts then it is soon snatched up! Here they are on the hill gnawing away on some beef bones.
Her speed and strength are increasing too. She can now outrun the kids and for the first time this week she was the winner in race to greet me when I come home from work. Duke waits and watches and then flies at all of us to scare us. My bus drops me at the back of the house and I whistle then the foot race is on, this is my little treat at the end of the day ... to be made a fuss of by the children and the dogs.
